General Description / Special Programs

A field school with the cost and convenience of an online course

This field school course, taught online from Ecuador, immerses students virtually in the culture of an Andean village. Students connect with villagers through Zoom and Skype or WhatsApp,* practicing language skills while learning about rural livelihoods and sustainability in a context of climate change and globalization.

We are happy to work with your home institution to ensure that you receive academic credit and that the field school meets requirements for your major or minor. At Wayne State University, this field school satisfies requirements in Anthropology, Global Studies, and Spanish, and is under consideration for Environmental Sciences.

Undergraduate and graduate levels. Spanish proficiency not required -- expectations will be tailored to student interests and skills. Limited enrollment -- apply early!
